Guatemala Finca El Morito

High in the mountains of Mataquescuintla, Jalapa, Finca El Morito has been shaped by more than three decades of dedication to coffee. The farm was established in 1994 on land once covered with wild blackberries, or moras, which inspired its name. Today, El Morito is managed by Roberto Monterroso, who was born and raised in the region and brings a lifetime of local knowledge and hands-on experience to every aspect of the farm.

Ranging from 1,370 to 2,350 meters above sea level, El Morito provides a diverse environment for cultivating more than thirteen Arabica varieties under natural shade. Roberto believes that quality begins long before harvest, in the health of the soil and the careful management of each coffee tree. Selective picking, precise field work, and a low-impact wet mill allow the farm to explore washed, natural, anaerobic, and other processing methods while preserving the unique character of each lot.

This commitment to quality has earned El Morito international recognition, including 1st place in the 2022 Guatemala Cup of Excellence. Sustainability is equally central to the farm’s identity, with around 70% of its land remaining forested and a significant portion officially protected as preserved forest. Through environmental stewardship, community initiatives, and a continued pursuit of better coffee, El Morito represents a philosophy built on consistency, partnership, and respect for the land.
