Kamavindi Coffee Estate, Kenya

Kamavindi Coffee Estate is a family-run coffee farm located in Kamavindi Village, Embu County, on the fertile slopes of Mount Kenya.

Kamavindi Coffee takes its name from a small stream that runs through the farm.

The farm was established in 1956 by John Njiru Mbature, at a time when colonial regulations allowed farmers to plant no more than 100 coffee trees.

Three generations later, the farm is now run by Peter Mbature, whose approach is defined by one clear principle: quality first, always.

To better understand his own coffee, Peter earned his Q Arabica Grader certification. He also began separating SL-28 and SL-34 from higher-yielding varieties such as Ruiru 11.

Not because it was easier, but because he believed these two varieties carried something worth protecting.

Peter has since extended that same knowledge to neighboring cooperatives, supporting their export preparation and quality development.

SL-Selection is composed only of SL-28 and SL-34 — the varieties that helped build Kenya's reputation in coffee. In this lot, they are grown, separated, and cared for by someone who understands exactly what they are.
