ORIGIN STORY
El Obraje
Hacienda El Obraje is located in Tangua, Nariño, Colombia, and is managed by Pablo Andrés Guerrero.
Although Pablo originally trained as an architect, his family has been involved in agricultural trading for generations. He began cultivating coffee in earnest in 2012, building on the family’s long agricultural history, which dates back to 1988.
The farm sits at approximately 2,200 meters above sea level and is maintained as a protected natural environment, with around 55% of the total land preserved as forest. Across approximately 39 hectares, El Obraje grows a diverse range of coffee varieties, including Geisha, Yellow Bourbon, Typica, Moka, SL28, and others.
The farm has earned international recognition for its distinctive specialty coffees. In 2021, a Geisha Washed lot from El Obraje placed first in the Cup of Excellence Colombia.
PROCESS
Lot #118 is a washed Geisha.
The cherries are carefully handpicked at optimal ripeness. On the day of harvest, they undergo flotation to remove low-density and underripe cherries.
The selected cherries are then placed intact in sealed plastic tanks for approximately 12 hours of fermentation under limited exposure to light and oxygen. After fermentation, the cherries are mechanically depulped without the use of water.
The coffee is then transferred with its mucilage intact into sealed 200-liter plastic tanks, where it undergoes approximately 12 hours of dry fermentation.
After washing, the coffee is dried under the sun for two days, followed by an additional three days of mechanical drying.
The Puente Geisha Fully Washed we imported this time most clearly reflects that philosophy. When we cupped it at origin, what stood out first was not exaggerated intensity, but a precise and transparent elegance.
On the clean structure typical of a fully washed process, the delicate aromatics of the Geisha variety were distinctly expressed, with each sip maintaining clarity and continuity without distortion.
Behind this clean cup lies the gradual change initiated by six producers, which has accumulated into what Puente Geisha Fully Washed is today. We hope this coffee will be remembered for a long time for its clean and refined expression of classic Geisha.
