ORIGIN STORY
El Turpial
El Turpial is located in Cumbitara, Nariño, Colombia, and is run by second-generation producer Emerson Narváez. Since 2019, Emerson has been operating the farm, focusing on productivity and sustainability while demonstrating that high-quality coffee can be produced in a region where illegal crop cultivation has long persisted.
Situated at an elevation of 1,950 to 2,850 meters, the farm cultivates varieties including Gesha, SL28, Laurina, Sidra, and Geisha. Emerson was named Champion of the 2023 Mi Nariño Cup, with his coffee reaching 60 USD per pound, and was also selected as a Top 10 finalist in a major competition in 2025.
Laurina
Laurina is a rare naturally low-caffeine variety, containing less caffeine than typical Arabica varieties and known for its delicate cultivation requirements and limited yield.
Highly regarded in the specialty coffee industry for its rarity and distinctive cup profile, Laurina offers a uniquely clean and gentle texture, accompanied by elegant fruit nuances.
Process
The cherries are carefully handpicked at optimal ripeness, then fermented in GrainPro bags for approximately 12 days under controlled anaerobic conditions.
After fermentation, the cherries are placed in tanks for a 3-day submerged fermentation stage, then slowly dried on raised beds for approximately 18 days to complete the process.
